Extensive research at Delft University of Technology (2015-2021) has shown that it is safe. The reserach is published in doi.org/10.4233/uuid:7ba47471-dea5-43e8-a69d-6db07162bd70

DVGW just added a report to the library here from 2010 (in German) on thermal recovery from drinking water. It concludes that they don’t recommend it due to the long list of risks. www.eureau-innovation.org/library/climat...trinkwasser-pdf/file

Also drinking water can be a source of sustainabe energy by recovering heat or cold: thermal energy from drinking water. Take a look in the library for two examples.

Waste water is a constant and inexhaustible resource that can carry ~25% of a building’s daily energy consumption and in most cases, is being allowed to go to waste into our sewer systems. Recovering and reusing the thermal energy with heat pumps can help counteract climate change.
